The Inland Revenue Board says the 17,000 current users highlight increased understanding and acceptance of the e-invoice system among taxpayers.

The Inland Revenue Board (LHDN) has reported encouraging use of its new e-invoicing system, which is being used by 17,000 taxpayers.

LHDN said that as of yesterday, more than 7,000 taxpayers have adopted the e-invoicing system under Phase 11 of the initiative.

A total of 4,900 taxpayers from Phase III had voluntarily joined ahead of schedule.

“This positive trend has resulted in a total of 17,000 taxpayers, including companies, businesses, and organisations, actively using the system, generating about 137 million e-invoices,” it said in a statement.

“The growing participation highlights increased understanding and acceptance of the e-invoice system among taxpayers.”

Micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) that are earning less than RM150,000 annually, numbering about 700,000, are not required to issue e-invoices.

LHDN also said the government will provide a six-month transition period to allow taxpayers flexibility in issuing consolidated e-invoices, where all monthly sales transactions are combined.

During the transition period, no penalties will be imposed on taxpayers who issue at least consolidated e-invoices.

The e-invoice system had been rolled out gradually from Aug 1 last year, starting with businesses with an annual turnover or revenue of more than RM100 million.

It will eventually be extended to all businesses by July 1.
